The last thing I want to be doing is spending a lot of time in the kitchen!

With all the holiday crazies going on have you even thought about it?

I’ve got a great suggestion if you need one. We love just about anything Snickerdoodle at our house – cookies, muffins, cupcakes, blondies. So when I happened upon a recipe for Snickerdoodle French Toast over at the Land O’ Lakes website I knew we’d love it.

Snickerdoodle French Toast

The french toast is made the night before so it makes Christmas morning prep simple.

After being dipped in the egg mixture the bread is then coated in crushed up Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, (one of my kid’s favorite cereals) and then sits over night in the refrigerator.

The cereal coating gives the french toast some extra cinnamon flavor plus a great crunch!

Of course, the cinnamon goodness is only made better when you smoother it in cinnamon syrup!!

Over the holidays my daughter attended a brunch at a friend’s house.  She came home raving about the french toast her friend’s mother had made.  Tessa is a french toast connoisseur.

Whenever we go out to breakfast Tessa almost always orders the french toast.  She has eaten a lot of really good french toast as a result.  After she went on and on about the french toast from the party I knew I needed to email the friend’s mom for the recipe.  Caryn graciously sent me the recipe and I decided it would be the perfect thing to serve on New Year’s morning.

The french toast is made the night ahead of time so you can have a quick and easy breakfast in the morning.

French Toast

The french toast has a yummy, gooey, caramely layer on top or on the bottom, depending on how you put it on the plate – thus the name Creme Brulee.  Creme Brulee is one of my favorite desserts so I knew I would like it for breakfast too!

I served the french toast with a blueberry compote but it would be wonderful with come caramelized  apples or pears too.

The layer of brown sugar and butter on the bottom of the pan creates the delicious, gooey layer.  You then place the bread on top.  I used a nice crusty, artisan style bread and then the egg mixture is poured over the top.  Cover it with some plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator over night.  Just bring it to room temperature before baking and you are ready to go!

French Toast

Caryn said the recipe came from a Bed & Breakfast here in Oregon – DreamGiver’s Inn in Newberg.

Overnight French Toast

Overnight French Toast When I was little my mother would cut various foods into different shapes, grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes etc.  There is just something that makes food cut into fun shapes taste better. So why not start off Valentine’s Day with a little fun and some heart shaped overnight french toast.  Valentine’s Day falls on a school/work day this year so getting a big fancy breakfast fixed before everyone heads out the door could be a challenge.

Overnight french toast makes it easy.  You do most of the work the night before and that morning all you have to do is throw it on the griddle and then add the strawberry syrup. I like using the thick Texas Toast bread.  I used one of my many heart shaped cookie cutters and cut the bread into cute little hearts. Heart Shaped French Toast I mixed up a mixture of egg, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg and poured it over the bread, making sure to cover both sides of the bread.  Cover it with some plastic wrap and then put it in the refrigerator overnight. Overnight French Toast After I had the french toast in the refrigerator I mixed up a batch of strawberry syrup.  Easy to do (directions below).  The next morning all I had to do was cook the french toast. Overnight French Toast And then top it with the syrup and some sliced fresh strawberries. Overnight French Toast Heart shaped french toast is just way more fun to eat than regular old square french toast! Overnight French Toast And then cover it with fresh strawberries and your Valentine will love you even more! Brioche French Toast with walnut crumble with a drizzle of pure maple syrup is basically

heaven on a plate!Brioche French Toast with Walnut Crumble

This post is sponsored by the California Walnut Board but all opinions are my own.

This Brioche French Toast would be the perfect thing to serve mom this Mother’s Day or any day!

I walk several times a week with a friend our main topic of conversation usually has something to do with food.  What new recipe had we tried for dinner that week, where had we eaten out recently and what did we have.  Food is one of my favorite topics of conversation.

My friend had recently been on a trip to Chicago to visit one of her married kids and she weas telling me about a delicious breakfast they had enjoyed at a restaurant.  As she described these amazing pances that had a crumble topping on them I decided right then and there that I was going to have to try and recreate that at home.

Brioche French Toast with Walnut Crumble

I decided to try it with french toast instead of a pancakes though, I get crazy like that sometimes.  I love a nice thick brioche bread for my french toast but it can be hard to find.  If you can’t find it use any thick sliced bread, you can even slice your own!

I soaked the bread in a mixture of eggs, whipping cream , lemon zest, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon.  Dip the bread in and then let sit for five minutes to let the liquid soak in.

Brioche French Toast with Walnut Crumble

While the bread is sitting mix together your walnut crumble.  The crumble is similar to what you would put on an apple crisp.  I combined brown sugar, softened butter, walnuts, oatmeal and cinnamon.  Use your fingers to make sure the ingredients are well combined.

Brioche French Toast with Walnut Crumble

Spread on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.  Stir a few times through the baking process and then remove from oven and allow to cool.

Brioche French Toast with Walnut Crumble

Cook your French Toast on an electric griddle or in a frying pan until golden brown.  Place on your plate and then sprinkle with walnut crumble and drizzle with maple syrup!  Yum!!

Brioche French Toast with Walnut Crumble

The walnut crumble would also be perfect on top of ice cream or yogurt.

Baked French Toast is a holiday favorite at our house and the perfect Christmas morning breakfast.  You won’t be sure if it breakfast or dessert!Baked French Toast

Planning ahead when it comes to breakfast is the key to success, especially if it is a holiday morning or there are overnight guests involved.  Who likes getting up at the crack of dawn to prepare a delicious breakfast for the guests?  Not me! So I love using recipes that allow me to do most of the work the night before.

What is Baked French Toast?

  • Baked French Toast is one of those recipes that allows you do all of the work the night before. All you have to do in the morning is bake it!
  • My version of baked french toast is covered in crispy, crunchy cinnamon goodness.  I used Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal to create the crispy coating.

stack of Baked French Toast

How to Make Baked French Toast?

  • First, you want to start with a nice thick bread, not the regular sandwich type bread.  I like my bread about 3/4″ thick.
  • Then, mix together your egg mixture which is a combination of eggs, milk, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla.  Make sure the eggs are beaten well.
  • Next, crush your Cinnamon Toast Cereal.  I like to put it in a zippered plastic bag and roll over it with a rolling pin.

dipping french toast

  • Then, dip your bread into egg mixture, totally coating both sides and then dip into crushed cereal, covering both sides. Place each piece on the prepared baking sheet.

  • Finally, cover with wax paper and put in the freezer for a few hours over overnight.  You want it to be firm. When you are ready to cook it, bake at 425 degrees F, uncovered, turning once, for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Baked French Toast makes morning prep simple and I love the crunch the cereal gives the french toast.  For more cinnamon goodness serve it with cinnamon syrup.  All your snickerdoodle fans are going to love it too.
